Midwest RAILS - Large Scale Modular
Midwest RAILS (Railroaders Active In Large Scale) is a large-scale modular model railroad club that was formed in 1994. We currently have 20 members. Most of our members live in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. They own and operate large-scale model trains in several scales including 1:20.3, 1:22.5, 1:24, 1:29 and 1:32.
Although some modules, including our original, "small" corner modules, our new, "large" corner modules, our transition modules, two bridges, and our yard are owned by the club, most of our standard modules (30" x 47-1/4") are owned by individual members. As a result, our layouts have a variety of interesting scenes. These layouts range in size from a square 10' by 10' layout to an L-shaped 65' by 65' layout. The modules included in any layout are decorated by individual members.
Although we hold business meetings periodically, Club activities are focused on setting up our modules for model railroad shows and other venues. We participate in about eight events each year.
